Afghanistan always appears to be a country of terrorism, devastation, mass killing, suicide bombing and so on. Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, is also of no difference. But Sri Pranab Mukhopadhyay experienced the city, its people and spaces, in a different way. He emphasised to photograph the life of the daily struggle of ordinary people, where they live, work, relax and sometimes die.
Sri Mukhopadhyay made a carefree photographic exploration of streets of Kabul to see the dull yellow brick houses, carpets. street food, noisy bazars, the donkey carts and smithy’s furnace, the moving figures in blue burkha, girl students, the devastated historical buildings and so on. He also captured the raw images of ‘Buzhkashi’, the national sports of Afghanistan. All these were displayed in 34 numbers of print photographs. These apart, Sri Mukhopadhyay, presented a good numbers also in his beautiful conversational narration through projection, discussing the history and geography of each of them.
The seminar presentation was held at the premises of Barrackpore Photolovers’ Association on 01/09/2018.
